Grades K-3: Memoria Press - Charter school version

If you are looking for a high quality, complete English Language Arts curriculum, Memoria Press provides the answer. This program “cultivates of wisdom and virtue through the study of the liberal arts and the Great Books. The liberal arts are the universal linguistic and mathematical skills students need to excel in every area of life. The Great Books are the means by which we pass on the cultural heritage of the West. A mastery of both is the best way to prepare a child for a life of wisdom and virtue.”

Their philosophy is multum non multamuch, not manyas a meaningful approach to study where students learn, not many things, but much. It is in opposition to the culture of “covering” miles of curriculum that only goes an inch deep.

Memoria Press products are designed to be accessible to families who have no familiarity with the subject being taught. While their products are readily accessible to amateurs, they are also designed with the highest academic standards in mind.

Grades 4-8: Center for Lit

CenterForLit Schools use the Socratic method of studying literature through the Teaching the Classics approach to literary education. Their resources allow teachers, parents, and students to work together to help students engage with literature in a deep and meaningful way. Students are drawn into great literature and experience how authors craft story to reach into the heart and minds of their readers. Students leave the classroom knowing they are able to be part of “the great conversation” that exists between themselves and writers from various times in history, cultures, and backgrounds.

From Center for Lit: The task of a literature teacher should be nothing more than equipping students to carefully read and engage with great books. A student who can read with understanding and enter thoughtful conversation about an author’s ideas in the classroom has successfully achieved a literary education. The problem is, this kind of education isn’t necessarily measurable, quantifiable, recordable, or verifiable. In short, it's not deliverable. Yet we teachers face the demand for documentation from two directions: parents, and administration. This of course is always the problem with real education - how do we prove it? How do we document it? How do we verify it? Especially since the traditional methods of worksheets, book reports, and recall tests can often hinder our most important work, which is teaching good, literary reading and instilling a love for the classics.

Grades 9 & 10: Excellence in literature

Excellence in Literature is a college-preparatory literature and composition course. Focus works, including novels, short stories, poems, and drama, have been selected for literary quality, interest, and for their place in the historical development of literature. Context readings provide background information about the author, the historical period, and the literary and artistic context of the focus work. Students will gain an understanding of the development of literature and will practice the skills of close literary analysis through essays, approach papers, and other evaluative writing.

Social Studies

Grades K-5: Story of the World

Story of the World (SOTW) takes readers on a chronological adventure through time and cultures. This interesting and memorable introduction to World History is divided into a four volume series. Additional stories are discovered through reading biographies, source documents, and historical fiction books that supplement this program.

  • Volume 1: The Ancient Times (2024-2025)

  • Volume 2: The Middle Ages (2025-2026)

  • Volume 3 & 4: Modern Times & American History (2026-2027)

Grades 6-8: Take a Stand & Story of the World

Students study History using Story of the World (SOTW) as a text and Take a Stand as a guide for debate and Socratic discussions. This provides middle school students, who love to debate (better known to parents as arguing), a venue to express their ideas while teaching them to think critically, and analyze Historical text. SOTW takes readers on a chronological adventure through time and cultures as an interesting and memorable journey into World History. Students experience other times and cultures through reading biographies, source documents, and historical fiction books that supplement the program.

  • Volume 1: The Ancient Times (2024-2025)

  • Volume 2: The Middle Ages (2025-2026)

  • Volume 3 & 4: Modern Times & American History (2026-2027)Grades 9-10: World History (2024-2025) — American History (2025-2026)

GRADES 9-10: WORLD HISTORY (2024-2025) — AMERICAN HISTORY (2025-2026)

Students in grades 9 & 10 will engage in debate and Socratic discussion as they study the past. The Take a Stand series teaches students how to read, think, and research like a Historian by analyzing Historical events.  This series is not a set of textbooks, but rather thinking, reading, speaking, and writing guides.

Students will use Susan Wise Bauer’s History of the Medieval and Renaissance World and novels from Bookshark’s World History program as they journey through modern World History. Bookshark is a Charlotte Mason approach to studying history, which engages students through reading. BookShark is a complete, literature-based homeschool curriculum developed for students from pre-k through high school. This curriculum uses a variety of educational resources including literary fiction and nonfiction, biographies, and illustrations to deliver an engaging and complete education that extends beyond textbook memorization.

Grades 7-10: Centripetal Press

Challenges abound in education today, compelling thoughtful educators to search for new teaching methods and solutions for the classroom. Private schools, charter schools, and homeschools have freedom to implement the changes that will actually improve education and increase student achievement.

So where do we start in science and math?

What is needed is nothing short of a paradigm shift in the way we teach and in the ways we expect students to learn.

Centripetal Press founder and author John D. Mays has identified three areas of focus that have proven to be true game changers for student academic achievement: Mastery, Integration, and Wonder. These three core principles are at the heart of all Centripetal Press textbooks. Find out more at https://centripetalpress.com/about/mastery-integration-wonder/.

Developmental Kindergarten (DK)

This program is for young 5-year-old children who would benefit from an additional year of study before beginning Kindergarten. Students in the DK program should turn 5 by December 1st of the school year in which they enroll.

mathematics: Math U See

The Math-U-See Curriculum is a complete and comprehensive K–12 math curriculum. The Primer level is an introduction to “doing math.” The emphasis of the Primer level is not for the students to demonstrate mastery of concepts and skills but to become familiar with them and ease into formal learning. Students will learn how to write numerals and basic counting. Additionally, students will be introduced to addition and subtraction, skip counting, geometric shapes, and telling time. They will become familiar with the Math-U-See Manipulatives and develop a positive attitude towards learning math. By using tools such as videos, manipulatives, and other resources, the Math-U-See Curriculum is designed to appeal to all types of learners in a variety of learning environments.
